The Aspex gallery is a visual art gallery in a historic Naval building. When I visited, they were showing their selections for the annual Platform Graduate Award with CVAN South East. These were 13 graduates who had been chosen by the gallery.
The first piece of art that I saw as I walked in was Katherine Smith's 'What is a Wheel', this installation was particularly interesting as although the wheel is rope like, you know that it is an entire wheel that is continuous. The wheel is significant as it symbolises constant movement without an end-point.

I also thought that Sasha Damjanovic's feminist work was great. She created a series of risograph printed posters that are bright, they aim to evoke urgency and demand attention. I like her use of imagery as well as typography in the posters.

Jade Anthony and Sofia Popova's installation was one that I particularly liked as it combined elements of nature and manmade objects. Their work also combined film, drawing, sculpture, painting and installation. Sofia's work focused on architecture and a psychogeographical response to the urban environment.

Jaz Bartlett's eye-catching work surrounds the idea of consumerism in todays society, particularly concerning food and fast food which conveys the idea of excess and indulgence. An especially striking feature of her work was a light sign that read 'HOT DOGS' however the lights flicker on and off to create the word 'HOGS'.
