One of my favourite artists and illustrators is Eugenia Loli. Her works are predominantly collages that are of surrealist scenes. These scenes often reflect her love of sci-fi and are especially eye-catching pieces of work. Before Eugenia became a collage artist she was a computer programmer, which lead her to become a technology journalist and a filmmaker. However she was unable to connect on a personal level with technology so she became a professional illustrator. Initially I began to look into her work at A-Level when I was researching how manmade and nature can correlate. One of her works that I love is 'Dry Cleaning' even though it could be considered less adventurous than other pieces of hers.

I love that fact that her work doesn't immediately make sense but still has an impact as it is unusual. I don't often use collage however her outcomes inspire me to try collage more. Eugenia uses pictures from her collection of vintage magazines and merges them with cut outs from sci-fi books to create her works that include aspects of surrealism and pop art. Each of her works also mixes modern and vintage, this interests me as much of the work I create links to history. She layers patterns, objects and figures on top of her pieces.

I would describe her works as having a very high visual narrative, they don't need any explanation, you look at them and know that there is a story there. Eugenia describes her artwork as neither pure photography nor pure illustration and stated that she likes René Magritte as an artist, you can see this surreal influence in her work.
